Sustainability Report 2021 of Consorzio Casalasco

Consorzio Casalasco del Pomodoro has recently published its fourth Sustainability Report relative to the previous year.
As usual, in addition to the economic data already presented (350 million euro of consolidated revenues and 570,000 tons of product processed with 70% of export sales), the 2021 Sustainability Report contains many other ESG indicators relating to the supply chain, quality, the environment and the safety, health and rights of workers whose number rose to 1,100 to reach over 1,800 employees during the tomato campaign.

The increase in employment is among the most relevant indices and records a recruitment rate of 9.1% compared to 5.6% in the previous year, with an increase in the overall presence of women and the number of foreign workers (+6%) from various European and non-European countries.

From an environmental point of view and in order to reduce the impact of indirect emissions, starting from 2021, 99% of the electricity purchased is certified with the renewable origin of the sources used (GO Guarantee of Origin); there was also an improvement in water intensity indices, which confirm the path of strengthening the water rationalisation and recovery systems started in all production sites.

The company has also worked to reduce waste through the improvement of the production process, thus recording a decrease in this index of 25% compared to 2020, despite the increase in volumes produced. This was possible in view of the recycling and waste management initiatives implemented by the company.
Investments in innovation, research and development were also at the heart of the company’s growth plan with an increase of 11.6% compared to the previous year.

From a social point of view, in 2021 the company continued to support non-profit organisations and host communities in the area through economic donations or the distribution of food products for the sustenance of people in situations of social fragility.
